In the spring of 2025, Glasir will offer a course in Faroese as a second language.

Faroese as a Second Language for Adults (hereafter referred to as FSA – Føroyskt sum annaðmál) provides instruction in the Faroese language as well as knowledge about Faroese culture and society for adult newcomers who do not have Faroese as their first language.

Admission to Faroese as a Second Language at Glasir is based on an admission interview.

In addition to language classes, the course also offers insight into cultural and societal contexts. The education is organized according to the curriculum for Faroese as a second language (https://namsaetlanir.fo/foeroyskt-sum-annadmal/) and ends with an examination. The program consists of four levels, and after each level, there is a proficiency assessment.

At Glasir, three daytime courses will be offered: 2-2 (proficiency level corresponding to CEFR A1+), 2-3 (proficiency level corresponding to CEFR A2+), and 3.2 (proficiency level corresponding to CEFR A2+). One beginner’s course will be available in the evenings.

The education aims to contribute to the integration of newcomers into society, enhancing their recognition in the labor market and other social aspects. In this way, the student becomes better equipped to utilize the education and skills brought from their home country or to pursue further education in the Faroe Islands, if desired.

The courses will last between 15 and 17 weeks.

Day courses: Classes are Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:10 AM to 11:30 AM at Glasir.

Evening Course: Classes are Mondays and Thursdays from 6:45 PM to 8:15 PM at Glasir.

The classes will start on January 6th.

The courses are free, but students must cover the cost of their own textbooks.
